Singer, Musician, Entertainer, Musicologist, Historian, Collector of Great Songs.
The Roots of Americana

“Honestly, I feel I play music regularly for the finest niche audience there is. They listen, they sing what they know, they are attentive, they understand music, and they love it, and they completely get it when they spot talent or someone just going through the motions. They share their musical knowledge willingly and with mutual gratitude and attitude.

The talent buyers I deal with to get to my audience I consider partners for the same cause and that is to align with me in the ability and need to serve that audience. With it comes long term and trusted business relationships and partnerships in a shared success.

It’s not really at all stage lighting style glamorous but for me it sure is a superb retirement career. It requires health, music and business skills. It just makes sense. I’m truly blessed.”

“My feedback from when I’ve seen your show on the Memory Care floor is that it is wonderful!  I know it is sometimes a tough crowd to play for when sometimes they aren’t as responsive as another crowd would be, but the way you interact with them is wonderful and the songs you play are perfect.  I would definitely like to continue having you there once a month, and continue having you for our IL/AL residents every couple of months as well.” …………………………………Jessica Natalie Trulee of Evanston

Hi Steve!

I wanted to let you know that I have received several calls to let me know how much people enjoyed having you perform for us last week. Everyone has been raving about how happy they were singing along with you! They want you back in the future and I’d have to agree with them! Thanks so much for being a pleasure to work with.

“Thanks again for such a great concert on Sunday. The audience was so engaged. I was pleasantly surprised that so many clapped and sang along. They don’t always respond so well. You brought out the best in them. Lots of happy smiles.

A staff member told me that a couple of patrons came up to her and commented about how much they enjoyed the music drifting downstairs while they browsed the bookshelves, so we reached even more folks.

I’ll be in touch about another concert for next year.”

My feedback from when I’ve seen your show on the Memory Care floor is that it is wonderful!  I know it is sometimes a tough crowd to play for when sometimes they aren’t as responsive as another crowd would be, but the way you interact with them is wonderful and the songs you play are perfect.  I would definitely like to continue having you there once a month, and continue having you for our IL/AL residents every couple of months as well.

Hello Steve,

I wanted to thank you again for your excellent program yesterday afternoon, The Music and Influence of Johnny Cash. It was a perfect way to celebrate his birthday, and it seemed to me as though everyone was thoroughly enjoying themselves! We have gotten some wonderful feedback through our online survey, and I have shared a few highlights below:

· “Loved it!”
· “Interesting information about Johnny Cash – Steve played a good selection of his music.”
· “[Presenter was] Funny, smart and personable.”
· “Steve obviously does a lot of research. I’ve seen him multiple times and I learn something new each time. He always is able to engage the audience. He’s never had the audience included in a song that he did today—it was the first time and it went over very well.”
· “[Presenter] Connected with the audience and did a nice blend of history with music.”
· “He was very talented, and got the audience involved. Would see him perform again.”
· “Thank you, I enjoyed myself. I felt the people around me were tapping their toes or keeping time with the music.”

Many thanks for providing this great program to our community!

All the best,

“There’s an intimacy at a place where Steve is playing that I think really enhances the entertainment experience.”

Rick Kogan – WGN Radio and the Chicago Tribune

“The feedback that I am hearing is that you were engaging, professional, and talented. They appreciated your variety of musical selections; something a little different than the standards; but familiar. Sounds like everyone had a very good time; and they want you to come back again.”

Village of Victory Lakes of Lindenhurst

“Thanks again for sharing your time and talent last night to play live on the Folk Festival show on WDCB. You played wonderfully, and I have gotten a number of e-mails about last night’s show expressing appreciation for your live spot.”

Lilli Kuzma – WDCB Radio Folk Fest Program

“I have let time get away from me and did not tell you how great your concert of Hank Williams music was. I enjoy your music and will always recommend you to any programmer.”

Jane Connors-Geddes, Antioch Public Library

“Thank you for providing the Park Ridge Public Library with the wonderful Vintage Folk and Classic Country music program. Our patrons were thankful that we invited you to present this program. Your song choices, singing, and playing were great, and you were so engaged with the audience. The standing ovation was well earned!”

“Glad to have had you here. Folks enjoyed the show very much.”

Chris Vallillo, Hickory Ridge Concert Series

“Steve took us on an entertaining tour of the musical world of the 1950s and 1960s that had members of the audience tapping their feet.I enjoyed Steve’s banter between songs almost as much as the songs themselves. I know it is tough for some performers to play alone, as he does, and keep the listeners engaged. He seems a natural.”

Rick Roche – Thomas Ford Memorial Library

Once again,  thank you so much for all the joy you brought to the Skokie Art Fair this weekend.  Your performance  was just great.    Please keep Skokie Art Fair ’09 on your calendar, July 11/12.”

“Steve Justman gave an excellent performance at Wilmette Public Library earlier this month.  He sang, played guitar and banjo and gave interesting background about the artists who made the songs famous.  He was able to handle a crowd that ranged from 2 year-olds to seniors.  I would not hesitate to book him again.”

Bonnie Forkosh – Wilmette Public Library

“Thanks to you for bringing us some great songs! I look forward to working with you again in
the future.”

Carol Kania, Downers Grove Public Library

“Thank YOU for the lovely afternoon of music and history.  It was a wonderful program and I’m very happy to pass along a recommendation for you to the other library programmers.  Your repertoire is impressive, as well as your ability to perform requests not originally on your playlist.  The audience loved that!  Thank you again and I would love to have you out here at Algonquin again!”

Lisa Guidarini, Algonquin Area Public Library

“You were great last night, from pitching in to help us with the microphone and set up to zeroing in on the kind of music the audience could all relate to.  You were personable and pleasant and a great singer/musician to boot.  Thank you on behalf of the AAUW ladies.  We really appreciated your coming and performing so nicely.  You made me, as a program person, look good! I will keep your name handy!”

Sally Brickman, American Association of University Women
